Description |
Here we have a 1998 Dodge Ram. It's a 2nd
generation model,regular cab with the 8.0l Magnum
V10. Heavy duty model with Dana 60/70 8 stud axles
and 4WD. Capable of towing up to 6.5 tons via a
fifth wheel.
This is not your average tatty
and rusty 2nd gen Ram. This vehicle has had a
significant sum of money spend in the last few
years most of it can be considered preventative
maintenance-below is what I can remember.

All
oils/fluids changed.
This ram drives very well
with no clunks or bangs, the steering is as good
as it gets for this model. No whines from the rear
axle and the 4WD engages and disengages as it
should. The engine is strong and can propel this
lump to 60 in under 9 secs.It uses no oil or water
and the engine runs very smoothly,only making
itself known under hard acceleration thanks to the
stainless Magnaflow exhaust.
The LPG system is
old and basic but effective and utterly reliable.
The tank hold 160 litres and gives the equivalent
of 20MPG. The vehicle runs on petrol as normal at
the flick of a switch in the cab. The LPG tank is
mounted centrally, this was to accommodate roll
bars I had fitted a while back. However, the tank
can be fitted at the head of the load bay behind
the cab as holes are still there.
This is an
SLT Laramie Sport model and has every extra except
leather. Not many regular cabs came with this spec
and it has the following-

Remote central locking/alarm.
With the
exception of the ABS all of the features work as
they should and always have in my ownership. The
interior is in fantastic condition for its age, no
tears on the seats and the dash is not cracked
like many others out there.
ABS issue- this is
due to a damaged cable on the pass side
sensor-thanks to a careless mechanic who replaced
the brake discs and replaced the sensor cable too
close to the disc. I shall try my best to make a
repair before end of auction but no guarantee-bear
this in mind. Worst case scenario is a new
sensor.
Bodywork was fully resprayed around 2
years ago and is hlding up well apart from a few
stone chips .
All of the glass is in good
condition,no chips or cracks.
All tyres have
less than 10kmiles on them and are like
new.
Wheels are chrome and need regular
polishing to keep them looking good. They are the
original wheels and are not as new, some rust
spots starting but easy to rub off and protect
with wax.
Underside has been waxoyled all its
life by the look of things and is very clean and
tidy looking-not the usual rusted mess underneath.
The top of the front bumper is slightly
rippled where it meets the grill and has a small
part where the paint has flaked. Not a major
issue.
Mileage is at 153000 not sure if that
is KM or Miles as its in such good condition
inside. The speedo reads in MPH so I assume it is
in miles. Not really that high considering how
unstressed and oversized the mechanicals on
these.
A great looking pickup that turns heads
and has many years of life left in it. MOT for one
year and taxed until April 2012.
Vehicle will
also be sold with a breathable outdoor cover and a
host of spare parts including-water pump,
thermostat,HT leads, spare floor mats etc!
